Proper Oral Home Care Vital For The Prevention Of Gum Infection
Proper oral care is vital to have healthy teeth and gums, this can also be the leading prevention for gum infections to occur. The development of gum disease may be influenced by several factors such as heredity, certain medicines, smoking and nutrition. Poor oral hygiene is said to be the primary cause of gum infections. The food that are trapped under the gums or in the periodontal pockets mixes with bacteria, thus creating plaque – a sticky, colorless film or known as a toxic stew that causes gums to be irritated and make them bleed. This plaque consists of bacteria, saliva and food derbis which attaches itselt to the surface of the teeth and below the gumline that encourages advanced and serious gum disease and tooth decay to develop. Plaque must be removed daily to avoid severe gum disease. But only a dental hygienist can remove built-up tartar.
